Black Man in America

My HBCU experience has shifted how I view black men in America. Black men are not a threat. Black men can be gentle, sensitive, smooth, loving, and inspiring. If anything every man wants to be black. Black men are born with innate strength. Black men are resourceful.

BUT

I feel for my men. Our men never get to feel their emotions or have a mental breakdown. From birth expectations are put on them to be a “man”. Yesterday I saw myself rushing him to gather himself – but everything is ok babe. Just don’t stay in those feelings. Additionally, a black man’s rage is one of the scariest things to experience. For about 9 months this man has been happy and rarely upset, so to see him over the edge was difficult to process. I could not have made that moment about me and because either way I love him. I love who is he and I love his mind. I love how he can calm himself and suppress his anger for the most part.
